A special wedding

My sweet friend Angelique got married last friday! She's the one I made the cake for in April when she got legally married. Friday was the church wedding and the big party!

As you can see I did her hair and her make-up! We curled her hair but her hair is SO straight that they didn't stay very well haha! She wanted a french braid and curls, it was such a creative hair-do she came up with!

Her make-up is easier to see on the pictures of he civil wedding in April:

The person that was going to welcome the people called off last-minute so I offered to help out. I got to be "the door keeper" hehe... It wasn't the most fun job 'cause I missed a big part of the wedding, but they really stressed out when the guy called and told them he couldn't get there!
I'm glad I could help them out :)

Joke's Wedding Cake

I found a picture of Joke's Wedding Cake!

Don't you just love their faces? They look so happy to be married and enjoying their party!

I told the caterers they didn't need to put the cake in the fridge because it was a big cake, made with royal icing and it was only for a couple of hours.
Dear caterers, if someone tells you it is not necessary to put the cake in the fridge it doesn't mean that you can put it next to the frying pans... That's why it did start to melt a tad bit and didn't look as perfect as it did before!

I did like the taste of this cake, very sweet but very good!

One Year of Marriage

A year ago I married my amazing husband!

I can't believe it's already been a year!!

This morning I got breakfast in bed and tonight we're going out for dinner :)
I have the best husband ever!!

They say the first year of marriage is the hardest because you still need to adjust to living together. If that is true, our marriage will be a breeze! We have SO much fun and enjoy being together a lot :)

What I've been up to today...

In only ONE day my friend Joke is getting married!
She's been counting down for quite some time now and I've been counting down with her haha!

Here's a sneak peek into what I've been doing for the last two days (and hope to finish today).

She made this cake stand herself with things she found in a thrift store! Very frugal and crafty if you ask me... (find out how she did it -here- )

My house is a mess... A BIG mess! There's cake crumbs everywhere and I can smell the frosting on my hands haha :)
The cake is a light chocolate cake with royal icing. I'm always amazed at how much sugar you put in that frosting! Good thing I've been stocking up on it for the past weeks hehe...

Now I can only hope Joke and her husband will like the cake!
It's my wedding present to them so let's hope everything goes well.

Just for the record, this is my third official wedding cake. Number one (see it here) was made in less than 24 hours, number two (see it here) was made not so long ago.
Last week I made a birthday cake and I'm still waiting on the pics from that one...

Bye Bye 2011

This past year has flown by!
One of my favourite bloggers, Jenifer at Sweet Blessings, did a '11 recap kinda post and I loved it so much that I'm going to give you my very own '11 recap!

Januari:
Januari is one of the 2 most hated months in the life of a student in Belgium: We have exams for the whole month!
My sweet fiancé (he was still a fiancé back then hehe) bought me this big bouquet of flowers and had them delivered to my door! I still think of it sometimes!

Febuari:
I went to London for the first time! This trip was also my first trip with friends... Weird isn't it? I'm just not that much of a travel person and I guess they just talked me into it :)
I loved it very much though!!

March:
I feel like March was such a boring month... I didn't blog and my agenda tells me that I only had a take-home-exam, so maybe that's why I didn't do anything exciting??

April:
In April I went with one of my friends to a Thai Massage salon. Not to get a massage but to talk to the women that work there. A lot of them don't work there because they want to but because they think they don't have another choice! Ofcourse we didn't get to talk about that but still, very weird to have been inside a brothel!
More about that here

May:
I had my bachelorette party in May!
I had a blast with my sweet girlfriends and enjoyed every moment of it :)

They dressed me up as my very favourite princess and made me clean streets... Because I'm a princess and I love to clean ofcourse. They know me too well I'm afraid...

June:
June was the month that I got to take my wedding dress home!!!
I was so excited! The lady from the store didn't want me to walk around in it, so I felt a bit bummed, but still, it's such a precious memory :)

July:
This one needs no more explanation I guess

August:
I cut my hair! I didn't like it at all so I'm happy that it's growing pretty fast :)

September:
We stayed at Jeff's parents' for two weeks as a little holiday while they went to Gran Canaria! We had so much fun together, still learning to live together but not in our own apartment. We love the region where they live, it's very calm and quiet there.

October:
In October we started our very first Marriage Course!
It's the one from Sila and Lee if you know them. We had so much fun together :)
We learned to talk about things we didn't talk about before... And we learned also that our marriage was (and is!) still pretty good!! I guess that's because we had only been married for three months at that point hehe!

November:
We went to Paris in November! Read about it here

December:
To prepare for Christmas, I gave Jeff every day a gift for the 10 days before Christmas!
On day one he got one present, day 2 he got 2 presents etc... (Don't worry they were pretty cheap!)
Yups very crazy but I had fun with it!

Come back tomorrow to read about my New year's Resolutions for 2012 and how I did with the ones for 2011!!

What are some of your highlights of 2011? Any expectations for 2012?

Wedding recap: Pro pictures part 1 of 2

So I guess I stopped the wedding recaps for a while because I was too busy with my vacation!
Here are the pictures of our photographer, Leentje! More will come in a couple of days!

We use this picture on our personal website, it feels so happy and bright!

This one is so "us"! Love the smiles :)

More to come in a few days!
Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed it :)

Part 4: The start of our BIG day!

On "W-Day" I had to get up at 7 am so I could go to the haird dressers' on time.
They did such a good job! They're twins so I always have to look which one is taking care of me :)

In the meanwhile, Jeff went to get my flowers :)

When he got at my place, my father and sister got him dressed and all ready while my mom and my maid-of-honor helped me get in my dress.

Me getting ready!

When we were both ready, Jeff waited for me to come down the stairs so he could see his bride for the first time!

(I'm sorry for the poor quality!)
I was so nervous to NOT fall down and to keep on smiling for the pictures :)
Maybe I'll post a little video too, if I can make it a bit shorter than it is now...

 I love this picture :)

Look at those happy faces hahaha!

After that, we got in the car and went to the photography venue! We only hired a photographer for a photo shoot, the other pictures are from my SIL and other family members.

Next up: the ceremony!

Part 3: Let's partyyy!

So where were we?
Oh yeah, the party on friday!

Toasting on our new life together! We didn't just have champagne but bacardi... It was a little surprise from my mother, she wanted to do something special!

While our parents were setting up the food corner, we relaxed with the girls! The picture above is Lilly, the youngest one... She's my sweetie :)

And this little princess is Noeki, she's Jeff's little girl! He's her godfather (sounds creepy hah!)

We were the first to start with the food :) I liked that, being the first with everything ghihi... It was SO good! And sooooo much!! Mmm...

Jeff looking very happy with all the food ;)

My grandparents, enjoying their meal!

After our dinner we gave Hans and Petra, our witnesses,  a little present

Hans got a special bottle of champagne

Petra got a beautiful pen from Swarovski! Because she 'signed' for us :)

Our parents too, got a little present!
It was a little story about a tree, in a beautiful white frame...

My parents were a little bit emotional

And I thought Jeff's parents weren't that emotional, so Jeff's dad read the story out loud. All of a sudden he stopped reading and my MIL took over... Turns out he was so touched!
I'll post the story in another post!

The little flower girls got a bride doll, they were thrilled! They kept saying "Did Evelien buy it just for ME?!" So cute :)

Don't you think my MIL looks adorable?!

My father had a little surprise gift for Jeff: a T-shirt with "Love one woman... many guitars". My dad was acting really proud for having found such a t-shirt haha! And Jeff loved it, he immediately changed into the shirt!!

We made a delicious cake for us to cut, my parents really did a good job!!
(look at the shirt... yeah, you didn't believe me when I said he changed his suit for the shirt? here's evidence!!)

At the end of the day we did some swimming, it was so much fun with the little girls!!

Afterwards, Jeff's family went home and Jeff got to stay at Petra's house because we saw our 'wedding' as incomplete without God's blessing so we decided to wait one more day to finally get to sleep in the same bed :)

Comin' up: Jeff coming to get me... again ;)
